Home Insurance

Home insurance comes in three main forms, Buildings, Contents and a combined policy covering both the Buildings & Contents.

Buildings insurance covers the cost of repairing or rebuilding a home should it be damaged or destroyed through fire and natural risks such as flooding. The cost of this cover is normally very competitive unless you live in an area prone to natural disasters such as flooding which has become a serious issue for affected homeowners.

Contents insurance covers the items in the building such as your furniture, electrical equipment and personal belongings. Normally contents insurance covers your items not only in the home but items which are on you too such as clothes and jewellery. Policies can also cover fine art, wine collections, garden items, bikes etc. but each may be subject to additional premium and if you have any especially valuable items (normally over a minimum limit) they should be listed on the proposal form to ensure they are covered. Insurers may ask for proof of purchase or a valuation for these valuables.

Many home policies will also offer you Travel Insurance, Public Liability Insurance, Employers (your) Liability for staff in the home, gardeners, cleaners etc. and legal expenses assistance for domestic disputes.

A combined policy is designed for people who own their own home (with or without a mortgage). If you rent normally your landlord is responsible for the buildings part of your cover and you pay for your contents.

Motor Insurance

Motor insurance covers you if your car or motorbike is stolen or involved in an accident as well as protecting third parties if you cause damage to them, their vehicle and/or their property.

Your premium is based on how old you are, how long you’ve been driving, the type of car you drive, your claims history and motoring convictions. For example, if you have just passed your test or have had accidents or convictions in the last ten years you will pay more for your cover.

You can accumulate a no-claims discount each year that you haven’t a made claim which will be applied to your premium. After a number of claim free years you can protect this no-claim discount allowing you to retain your no-claims record even if you make a claim. This will normally be worth the additional cost as many claims are not the fault of the insured but still lose you your no-claims discount if you cannot prove the other party was at fault and claim back against that party in full.

Other Insurance

Dental Plans

Dental insurance covers the cost of dental treatment. Depending on the plan this may be for dental problems requiring treatment such as fillings, abscesses or cysts or all of your dental costs including your check-ups and cleaning with a hygienist.

Travel Insurance

Many people take out travel insurance for each trip they go on but if you are travelling abroad more than once a year it maybe beneficial for you to look at annual cover. We can arrange cover wherever you are travelling and for any length of time. Annual cover is also available as an option on most home insurance policies and this may be a cheaper alternative.

Pet Insurance

Vets bills can be very expensive. Pet Insurance can help provide peace of mind should your special friend require any treatment over and above their normal check-ups and vaccinations. Cover is normally inexpensive and will cover the cost of most treatments.
